A brief breakdown of #PolitIQ, my ongoing role with the company, and how you can use your political knowledge to win big $$$!
Back in March of 2019, personal prayers were answered as I stumbled upon the perfect work opportunity for me as a political science enthusiast and freelance writer:
I became a contracted writer for the awesome start up company PolitIQ, LLC.
I had just decided to set up shop as a freelance writing consultant when the company owner, Connor Halline, posted a job opening position looking for a remote writer with a key handle on daily US political affairs. The writer's role was to help kickstart generating user friendly informational content for his new business.
PolitIQ is an online trivia platform dedicated to educating the American public about important news stories that will have a significant impact on their daily lives, public policy, the economy, and also US foreign affairs in a fun and engaging competitive quiz game format.
As a personal advocate for civil education and the participation of all my fellow Americans in our government decisions, I jumped at the chance to apply to the role of contracted writer! Connor and I saw eye to eye on the great potential of his start up as I fully support the mission of PolitIQ to encourage users to become informed about the political events which shape their lives.
My continuing roles, are to:
Research! I spend a few hours each morning scanning my newsfeeds of prominent newspapers and other news providers, such as #Reuters and #WallStreetJournal, to determine which news stories are both saturating the public psyche and also are substantial game changers in the public policy arena.
Write! After my researching, I get to sit down and write 3-5 brief summaries of the most critical news stories that, if PolitIQ users don't yet know about, will aid in increasing their practical knowledge of political issues. I then turn these summaries into a multiple choice question with a corresponding answer/explanation to provide situational context.
What happens after I turn in my writing to the company?
Users get to affiliate themselves to a political party to earn points for team #Independent, Team #Republican, or Team #Democrat. Each day, two quizzes are posted online for users to take for a total of 10 questions daily. For every question guessed correctly, the user gains a point!
Daily points are added up over the course of the month, and at the end of every month there is a cash prize for the person demonstrating the highest "political IQ". It's a lot of fun to be a part of, and the potential cash winnings are a solid incentive to keep up with the news.
For as long as I work with Connor and the rest of his writers who have been hired over the course of 2019, I will continue to provide writing and research assistance wherever there is need, even when outside the realm of trivia creation.
In fact, for the month of October, we shifted gears regarding my focus to the more practical business side of operations of financial development: #Grantseeking.
Part of my formal education after I received my Bachelor's degree in Political Science was to pursue a post graduate certification in Fundraising Management. While my certification focus was on how to manage funding for non-profits, the skills and research tools I gained while learning about organizational development, donor solicitations, event management, and, of course, grant proposal writing are all easily applicable to the for profit sector.
